Ona - A new tool that makes it easier
for women to find breech providers

.After having my first child, I was struck by how difficult it was to find supportive maternity providers with the skills I was looking for. As a lawyer, I was equally struck by how often women's fundamental rights to informed consent and autonomy are disregarded in pregnancy and birth. By the time I was pregnant with my third baby, who was breech right up until the end of the pregnancy, I wanted to find my own way to make it easier for women to find the care they need and deserve. My own experience, and the frustration I heard from so many women around me, inspired me to create Ona — a community-powered platform where women can review and search for maternity providers, connect, and help each other make informed choices about their care.

When reviewing your provider, you can tag specific experience and skills — such as vaginal breech birth, VBAC, or home birth. Ona's review criteria focus on how your provider made you feel: Did you feel respected? Were you listened to? Did you trust them? How open were they to questions?

Ona is completely free to use, with no financial or commercial partnership between Ona and Breech Without Borders — we simply share a desire to help women find the care that's right for them. Reviews and search results are always 100% independent; providers cannot pay for more prominent placement.

We are asking the Breech Without Borders community to help build this resource by reviewing their maternity providers on Ona, and sharing the site with their own networks. Reviews of any perinatal provider are welcome — midwives, physicians, doulas, lactation consultants, postpartum support, and everything in between. Submitting a review takes only a few minutes, but can have a lasting impact on another woman searching for the right provider.

If your provider doesn't want to be publicly associated with a particular practice, like breech or home birth, you can create an entry by location without naming them, tagging the relevant skills instead. Women searching in your area can still find your review, and Ona's private messaging feature lets them contact you directly — while you stay in control of what you share.

One of Ona's core beliefs is that when one woman finds skilled, supportive care, that knowledge shouldn't end with her — it should help the next woman find hers too. As the Breech without Borders community knows, this is especially important for the breech community, as finding a skilled, supportive breech provider can be both stressful and isolating. We are excited to build this tool together, with the goal of making it easier for women around the world to find the right care
