Sheryl Sidery, RM

Sheryl has been a privately practicing midwife since 1988. She has also held a variety of midwifery positions at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, since 1989. These include Birth Centre midwife, Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Midwifery Consultant, Midwifery Group Practice and in 2018 she established the publicly funded homebirth program at the Royal. Sheryl has taught multiple subjects at University of Technology Sydney and Newcastle University.
In 2018 she established Birth Circle, a popular birth and parenting preparation workshop in the northern beaches area of Sydney.
In her time at the Royal, Sheryl designed and facilitated the homebirth skills program to the 30+ MGP staff who were offering homebirth. The course covered physiological birth, management of shoulder dystocia, neonatal resuscitation in the home environment, management of PPH and complications of breech birth. The course was evaluated with excellent feedback and was accredited with NSW Health HETI program.
Sheryl was fortunate to work alongside Andrew Bisits for many years while at the Women's hospital. Andrew co-facilitated the breech training in the homebirth emergency training course for MGP midwives. Sheryl has also taught this course to privately practising midwives and student midwives.
Sheryl worked for CAPERS for 3 years in 2010-2013 teaching midwifery emergencies in rural locations and cities all over Australia, which included breech birth. She is a mother and grandmother.
