Claudio Celentano, MD

I was born in Naple (Italy) in 1970 after a difficult operative vaginal delivery (vacuum and forceps). My whole life, my mother was telling me the nightmare of my delivery in which a totally non-empathic medical behavior enriched obstetrical difficulties (I guess). My mom had an urethral lesion and she was brought to the surgical theatre without an explanation. The anathema was addressed to me.

I started my medical school in Chieti (Italy) in 1988 with a degree with honors in 1994, discussing a thesis on fetal growth restriction. During my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, I spent four years in prenatal diagnosis and the labor ward. I had a post-doctoral fellowship in Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon (Tel Aviv) affiliated with the Sackler School of Medicine under the supervision of Sigi Rotmensch and Marek Glezerman. During my period in Israel, our center was enrolled in the Term Breech Trial, due to the presence of a skilled team.

After my return to Italy, I started a second residency in Medical Genetics. I'm in charge of the educational program in Obstetric Emergencies at University of Chieti-Pescara in Obstetrics and Gynecology. I work in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Santo Spirito Hospital, Pescara (Italy). My professional career gave me the opportunity to publish in an internationally indexed journal (60 papers) and present our research in many international congresses (more than 100). I am a member of the editorial board of the European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, and a member of the panel in Fondazione Ragonese Confalonieri for "Italian recommendations for term breech delivery."

My wife is a colleague at another university hospital, and I hope my two "kids," now attending high school, will choose their future without parental pressure, as I did!
